Gordon Miller Wins IANA’s 2006 Silver Kingpin Award
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, November 13, 2006 — The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) selected Gordon C. Miller as the 2006 winner of its Silver Kingpin Award, which annually recognizes individuals for significant career achievements that advance the interests of intermodal freight transportation.
Miller, who lives in Palatine, Illinois, received the award today during the opening general session of the 2006 Intermodal Expo in Fort Lauderdale. Miller was recognized for his exceptional contributions during his service in senior executive positions in the railroad, water carrier, trucking, intermodal marketing and supplier sectors of the industry.
“Few, if any, winners of this prestigious award can match Gordon’s distinguished service in every aspect of intermodal transportation,” said Michael B. Wilson, the chairman of IANA. “Gordon is truly a pioneer in many respects, including his successful efforts as a railroader to work with over-the-road truckers more than three decades before that business began to move toward a true partnership.”
Miller’s career began in 1952 at the Erie Railroad, and later included service at the Wabash Railroad, where he played a key role in starting new intermodal service with truckers. During the 1980’s, Miller built an intermodal equipment maintenance operation for Transamerica Transportation Services, an industry supplier. He also held executive positions at Pines Trailer, an equipment manufacturer, and served as chairman of Star Transportation, a brokerage firm, before his retirement.
IANA is North America's leading industry trade association representing the combined interests of the intermodal freight industry. IANA's membership includes railroads, water carriers and stacktrain operators; port authorities; intermodal truckers and over-the-road highway carriers; intermodal marketing and logistics companies; and suppliers to the industry such as equipment manufacturers, intermodal leasing companies and consulting firms. IANA's associate members include shippers, academic institutions, government entities and non-profit associations.
